Teen Jazz Improv Workshop 
The NYJA Teen Jazz Improv Workshop offers a chance for teens (ages 13-19) to learn jazz styles, improvisation, and jazz theory. Weekly sessions involve ensemble rehearsals and guest masterclasses. Performance opportunities vary year to year. Students recently performed at Carnegie Hall, on NBC Television, for NYC Mayor Bloomberg, and at major NYC jazz clubs. If you are looking to take your jazz playing to the next level, all while working with peers your age, this class is for you. Repertoire is rigorous, yet fun. Rhythm sections often include pro players assisting the ensemble. Performances/concerts are integrated throughout the year.

Big Band Programs
NYJA Big Band Workshops are open to beginning-intermediate-advanced level instrumentalists who are looking to play and work in a big band setting. Repertoire is similar to that of high-school, college and pro-level big bands, ranging from old-time classics to contemporary big band pieces. Instrumentation includes woodwinds, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, rhythm section (guitar, piano, bass, drums) and is dependent upon those applying and auditioning for spots. If you play clarinet or flute, you may be eligible to play.
MANHATTAN: Now with 3 Saturday sections!
Saturdays, 10am-11:50am: Big Band III, for players who need to work on basic reading skills.
Saturdays, 12pm-1:50pm: Big Band II, for intermediate-advanced level players.
Saturdays, 2pm-3:50pm: Big Band I, for advanced-pro level players only.
LONG ISLAND: Now with 1 Sunday section!
Sundays: 7:00pm-8:40pm
BROOKLYN: Now with 1 Thursday section!
Thursdays: 7pm-8:50pm
Requirements for this workshop:
1. Sight-reading ability a must.
2. A positive attitude toward music and musicians, and a desire to have fun!
3. Dedication to learning your parts.
4. A desire to learn, to take advice and accept direction.

Junior Jazz Workshop
The NYJA Junior Jazz Workshop is open to exceptional talented students, ages 9-13. All rehearsals are coached by leading jazz educators and professionals. Students work through improvisation and jazz styles while also developing musical fundamentals, including instrumental technique, note-reading skills, music theory, ensemble performance practice, the jazz songbook, and more. Performance opportunities vary year to year. Students have performed at Carnegie Hall, on NBC television and at major NYC jazz clubs.
