New York Jazz Academy Partners with Lawrence University for NYC Summer Internship Opportunity
For the fourth summer in a row, The New York Jazz Academy is pleased to partner with The Lawrence University to bring top talent to NYC as part of the 2016 NYJA Summer Jazz Intensives. Lawrence will be sending one accomplished upperclassman to NYC to spend the summer interning with NYJA. The internship is part of an elaborate and successful program called Conservatory Squared, which helps place top applicants from Lawrence into programs throughout the world, including internships with Carnegie Hall, New York Jazz Academy, Oberlin College, and the Deep Listening Institute.
Last summer’s intern, Jakob Heinemann, had this to say about his experience with NYJA: “Though I worked at the camp as staff, I can say with certainty that I learned as much as any student simply watching these amazing musicians work. Javier has really assembled a team of incredible individuals, who not only are unbelievable players but engaging, caring teachers as well. After finishing up the last week, I was definitely sad to leave New York and all of the great people I had met at the NYJA Intensives. The kindness exhibited by everyone there created an amazing community in which everyone was learning from everyone else, and though I am no longer a part of the NYJA, the experience I gained from spending a summer with it continues to influence me as a musician, teacher, and student.”
