Congratulations to New York Jazz Academy alumnus Esteban Castro, who recently received the 2016 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award, one of the country’s top honors among jazz composers. NYJA students have received many national honors over the past several years, including several DownBeat awards, Grammy Camp placement, scholarships with top universities and conservatories, and additional ASCAP Young Jazz Composer awards.

NYJA program director Javier Arau is proud of Esteban’s accomplishment, “Esteban is such a talented composer and pianist, and all at such a young age. He has a bright future ahead. I’m so pleased he won this ASCAP award, and it rings particularly sweet for me, as I was actually the very first recipient of the ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award many years ago, when ASCAP first launched the program!”
